The Perry RDA Group needs to raise £750,000 to set up a new indoor centre - The Shropshire Special Riding for the Disabled Centre - which can be used all year round.

The group which has been running for 10 years has outgrown its home in Yeaton and is looking to move to a 30-acre site on the outskirts of Shrewsbury . This will provide more space and an indoor riding area, enabling sessions to be run for schools and groups throughout winter without being at the mercy of the weather.

Jane Barker, group organiser says:

“There is a desperate need for a covered riding and carriage driving area. Last term alone the group had to cancel more than 75 individual carriage driving sessions and 35 riding sessions”

“This represents a huge disappointment to each of the individuals concerned as well as a drop in revenue for the group which still has to continue to shoe, feed and look after its horses and ponies”

A typical week at the centre sees a variety of groups from schools across the county using the facilities. On Saturdays parents bring their own children who need specialist attention while riding on horses or in carriages.
